UYO – Governorship flag bearer for the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Akwa Ibom State, Obong Nsima Ekere
has listed eight councils in the state for “special infrastructural development,”
if voted in as the governor, as according to him, the areas have been neglected in the scheme of things.
The local government areas are Ukanafun, Ini, Ika, Oruk Anam, Ibesikpo/Asutan, Ibiono, Mkpat Enin and Ikono.
Ekere while campaigning in Ukanafun, noted that the council has been neglected
as a result of militancy, adding “Before now, the place was known for notorious acts such as
cultism and militancy, which has claimed many innocent lives, as well as rendered several others homeless”.
He also promised to implement amnesty programme for youths who are willing
and ready to denounce cultism and militancy in the area,
noting that a programme he heads will be anchored on pillars of change,
which include economic prosperity, infrastructure and rural development, education,
health and social protection, security and governance and institutional reforms.
Similarly, addressing a crowd of supporters in Oruk Anam council, the governorship hopeful,
said the crowd was an indication that the area is APC and promised to provide road infrastructure
in order to open the area to the world.
Meanwhile, the paramount ruler of Eket, Obong Etim Abia, has endorsed Obong Ekere,
saying that the oil rich area would vote for him, giving his achievements as
the Managing Director of Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC.
Obong Abia said: “This is not the first time you are coming here and I am sure it won’t be the last.
You can be sure we will always support you in all your endeavours”.
